cotton knit tees
Organic Cotton:
Gossypium Barbadense or Cotton plant is a shrub native to tropical and subtropical regions of Peru. The soft fiber that grows around the seeds of the plant is spun into thread to make a soft, breathable textile, which is the most widely used natural-fiber cloth in clothing today. The soft texture and breathable nature make it a very wearable fiber. In addition, the arrangement of the cellulose gives cotton a good degree of strength, durability and absorbency. We use organic cotton in our lighter knits and wovens and with other natural fibers to add strength and soft texture to our blends.
KATA uses only certified organic cotton, which is grown without any harmful pesticides, herbicides, insecticides or artificial fertilizers. Most of our organic cotton is produced in northern Peru near Trujillo and Amazonas, but some is also produced in the south. KATA provides natural white Peruvian Pima cotton, prized around the world for its silky softness, tanguis cotton and native naturally pigmented cottons varieties. Subtle moulinex and melange effects can be achieved by blending naturally pigmented colors with fine, organic white varieties of renowned Peruvian cotton, creating lustrous and elegant textiles for the most sophisticated tastes. Our fabrics are practical, easy to maintain and will last through many years of use.
Organic certification of both the growing and textile transformation processes have been awarded to KATA Manufacturing by severally internationally recognized and accredited inspection organizations. KATA works under the ASTM and European standards that entail among other points, the use of prime dyeing materials and biodegradable softeners. No pesticides, herbicides, artificial growth regulators, defoliants or other agro-chemicals have been used to grow or color these products.
