Shoes are alled "lǚ" and "zuyi" in ancient time. It was meant single sole of shoes early, but stand for all kinds of shoes later. Like the old saying goes:※ Shoes are clothes of foot.§ So, as an important part of dress, shoes are cherished and favored by people during a long time. Yunnan ethnic groups created different types, patterns and cultures of embroidered shoes in order to pursue a better life from ancient times. Just like girls of Tong Ethnic Nationality wears embroidered shoes with multi-layers. The shoes are made by cotton thread, which is winkle-picker and spliced with blue and red cloth. In front of the shoes are embroidered with abstract geometry pattern, decorated with beads in the middle, and use starched black clothe with sewed figures at the heel of shoes. Embroidered shoes with ※tick head§ were favored by Shui ethnic nationality. The procedures of making this kind of shoes are very complicated. Firstly, use leaves of dry bamboo shoots to scissor a model of shoe, and then thicken it with second-hand cloth to make ※multi-layer§ and covered vamp with embroidered flannelette. There are many kinds types with different patterns that are birds or flowers at most of time, and have wool balls in front of shoes sometimes. At last, sew up the upper and sole of the shoes. Generally speaking, a master woman needs two or three weeks to make an embroidered shoe, and an ordinary woman needs a longer time. The embroidered shoes with ※hook head§ of Zhuang ethnic nationality is different with the two that mentioned before. The head of shoes are like hook or a dragon-shaped racing boat. The colors of shoes are garnet, dark red, celadon, yellow and green; patters are dragons, double lions playing balls, flowers, butterflies and magpies. The vamps of shoes are blue that embroidered flowers with yellow, red and green threads. The sole of shoes are multi-layer which stitched with flaxen thread. The stitches of shoes closer together that made the shoes firm and endurable.
