PGA
PGA is a kind of new-style excellent food addictive. It is made of Alginic Acid by deeply processing which is extracted from natural brown seaweed. PGA is white or light yellow powder, almost tasteless or a little fragrance, soluble in water and forms sticky and colloidal solution, insoluble in ethanol and other organic solvent.
Besides its thickening function, and because of its hydrophilism and lipophilicity, PGA has emulsifying ability and can be as the foam stabilizer. It can steady the ioly gel and PGA has acid fastness. Because PGA is non ionic compound, it is stable to metal ions and will not solidify or separate out.
Typical applications:
In food industry, as thickening agent, stabilizer and emulsifier, PGA is used in yogurt and ice cream.
In pharmaceutical industry, PGA can be used as stabilizer for X optical agents, protective agent for gastrointestinal mucosa, and the monomer for cosmetic material.
