Secure Digital (SD), which was first released in 1999, is widely used in the digital cameras, mobile phones, PDAs and the notebooks. Since its size (32mm X 24mm X 2.1mm) is much smaller than the CompactFlash, it will surpass CompactFlash and become the most popular flash memory card. In order to prevent accident overwriting, most of the SD cards were equipped with an optional lock.
