ROHO, Inc. was incorporated in 1973 by Robert H. Graebe. He began his career as an electrical engineer, who, upon working on a project for a hospital, became concerned about a means to heal ischemic ulcers (pressure sores). Through intense research and devlopment, Mr. Graebe invented ROHO DRY FLOATATION technology, named such because the cushion mimics the properties of water, in a dry, air-fluid environment. This technology has proven in clinical studies to assist in effectively healing and preventing pressure sores.

ROHO DRY FLOATATION technology is achieved in ROHO's products through air-fluid, interconnected cells. By using this product design, their cushions can mimic the properties of water by evenly distributing interface pressures across the cushioning surface and away from peak pressure areas.

Mr. Graebe, chose to use air as the fluid instead of water because of the weight and potential problems water could cause. Water is affected by gravity, difficult to adjust, hard to regulate by temperature, and requires lengthy set-up and take down times. Gel tends to migrate to separate areas of the seat or cushion, so eventually, you may "bottom out." In addition, gel becomes warm in hot weather and cold and hard in cold weather. With air, you'll always have protection between you and the existing seat, as long as you don't let the air out. Also, air pressure can be adjusted for varying altitudes and is not subject to temperature.
