Re-chargeable battery pack offers truly portable printing. A new version of the Ap800 mini-printer, from Able Systems, is now available with a re-chargeable battery pack, allowing fully portable functionality. The addition of a battery pack makes the printer suitable for many mobile applications including in-vehicle receipting, field test and measurement, medical equipment and car park ticketing. For truly portable EFTPoS (electronic funds transfer at point-of-sale) and EpoS (electronic point-of-sale) applications, such as market stalls and delivery vehicles, the printer offers a faster and more convenient alternative to handwritten receipts. Fully charged, the batteries will enable the Ap800 to print approximately two full rolls of paper. To conserve the battery power, a 'sleep mode' is affected after 30 seconds of inactivity and a 'test mode' monitors the voltage status of the batteries. Slotting into the underside of the printer, the battery pack can be recharged by a separate charger. Extra battery packs are available which slot into the printer to provide continuous operation. Measuring just 102mm (W) by 158mm (D) by 82mm (H) the Ap800 achieves fast print speeds of four lines per second across 24 columns. Its speed, low noise and size make it a flexible alternative for use in all areas where immediate ticketing or receipting is required. A specially designed protective carrying case is also available from Able Systems to enable the printer to be shoulder slung or fixed to a belt. This will be of particular use when used in delivery applications for mobile receipt production.
